Heavy Lies the Crown
The Takers Incident
92 years ago a group of disappearances, referred to as “The Takers Incident”, spurred the five kingdoms to each select a representative to investigate. The group met at Oasis Point and delved into the desert in search of clues. After a brief confrontation with a Goblin boss, the group followed him to Goldstop Rock. Upon meeting Henro Goldenstein there, the group quickly befriended him and and asked for aid in finding the culprits. After much deliberation and searching the group found a Witch in service to these “Takers.” The group interrogated and defeated the Witch, deciding then to return to Goldenstein with the knowledge they had gained. They discovered that a group of Devils was kidnapping females and males of different races in order to experimentally create a stronger variety of Cambions. With an army of loyal and strong Cambions they had hoped to take over the Five Kingdoms and the Northlands, which at that time remained not unified. Upon the groups arrival at Goldstop Rock, they found the Fortress under siege by Devils and Gnolls. They quickly dispatched the fiends and with the help of Goldenstein determined the secret tunnels the Devils had used to travel to Goldstop Rock. After a night’s rest Goldenstein gave the group Myriapedes to travel to the Devils’ hideout. After two days of travel the group found the entrance to the Keep of the Nine Hells and set upon the task of infiltrating it. The party successfully made it to the second layer before they were discovered. Over the next 8 hours the group descended through the Keep, fighting and sneaking where called for. In the final layer the heroes found not only dozens of captives alive, they found several hundred dead or mutated horribly by the experiments. As the group set to freeing the captives, a massive and powerful Pit Fiend named Baramoln, leader of this group of Devils descended on them with fury and fire. The battle that ensued claimed the lives of every party member except for Wraith, who with his last bit of strength slayed the Baramoln. As the captives escaped the last few of them saw Wraith fall to his knees and presumed he was dead as well, when in fact he was merely resting after the arduous battle. Overcome with grief over his newfound friends Wraith travelled North, finally ending his own life in Ghost Town. The captives that did escape found not only the mounts the party had used, but the trail leading them back to Goldstop. As the party members were all presumed dead, the captives looked to Goldenstein for purpose and thanks and he was from then on hailed as a hero to many for saving the captives. Many of these captives stayed at Goldstop and devoted themselves to serving Goldenstein for many more years.
