Wraith is an adventurer with a dark origin.

Roughly a century or so ago, in the Empire of Shizall, there was a small coven of Necromancers who were avoiding the eye of the law while indulging in their dark and disgraceful practices. Upon nearly being discovered, the coven retreated out into the wilderness of the Northlands so they could continue their studies of the dark occult in secret. Upon reaching this location, they discovered a mask with terrible power. Though they could not directly harness the power, they were soon driven to conduct dark rituals to awaken the mask.

Over time, the small village grew in this dark corner of the wilderness, and the coven gained more subjects to experiment on. They eventually preformed what is recorded in sparse ancient texts that mention the mask as The Rite of Eight. The seven leaders of the cult, all being overcome with their dark, twisted magic, found an eighth innocent man from the town and performed the ritual which included scarification, castration, and plucking out his eyes. After this he was ready to receive the mask.

Upon completing the ritual, however, the man came to life as the avatar of a Forgotten God, Wraith. Within the hour, every single soul in the town was slain and blood painted the ground.

Travelling southward, he came back to the Empire where it was being discussed who would be the representative they would send for The Takers Incident. Upon hearing about the situation, he was adamant about being selected for the task and wanted a chance to defeat this threat as well as save those who were lost. A long journey later he had succeeded, but at the cost of his entire party and his sanity. Unable to reconcile his godhood and humanity, he returned to that village to remove the mask, believing his purpose had been fulfilled.
